Craft Interview
Describe your style simply.
I use soft pastel, which I love for its texture, rich color, and luminous light.
What do you buy at the art supply store?
I usually buy most of my pastel supplies online, especially paper. I go to Jerry's for everything else.
What technical problems intrigue you?
None, really-except the nature of soft pastel. My paintings are only lightly fixed on the top layer, and must be handled carefully or they can smudge. Too much fixative darkens and dulls the color, and must be used very sparingly.
Among your own work, what is your favorite piece? Where is it now?
Right now, my favorite piece is "Swept Away", which won 1st place in the Competition "Affairs of the Art" in Feb. It can be interpreted on many levels, which I leave to the viewer. It hangs over my bed at present.
What impressions do you want others to take from your work?
A little of the beauty and mystery in the world around us.
Where/how can others view and purchase your work?
At present I have original paintings for sale at the Schock Gallery, East Ferry, Jamestown, RI. You can also contact me directly on work for sale at cbawebdesign@cox.net or visit my website at www.cbastudio.com
What are the sources of courage?
Painting and art is such a part of who I am; I could not stop. Life is too short not to do the thing you love most.
