Acclivity Alternative Rock
Acclivity is a band that is looking to reinvent the face of rock music as we know it. Formed in the winter of 2001, Acclivity enlists the 4 main elements of rock and with influences such as 311, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Led Zeppelin this quartet is poised to make some noise in the local music scene and beyond. Relying mainly on creatvity and spontenaiety, this band of friends thrives on originality. Their chemistry alone helps mold their already positive work ethic. The quartet is led by front man, Matt Fontes, who made a name for himself throughout his adolescent years with his unique free-style rapping ability and has since developed into a lead singer with lots of vision and determination. His insightful lyrics reflect his adventurous outlook on life. It can be said that most bands have a multifaceted member that is talented in many different areas and Acclivity is no exception to this coincidence. Chris Morris is a self-taught drummer with lots of flare and energy that shines through any time he takes a seat behind the kit. Known best for his spontaneity and wacky antics, Morris is all business when it comes to composing music and has been known to write everything from guitar riffs to bass lines. Robbie Garland is not your typical bass player. Originally a guitar player, Garland got his start with Morris, when the two would jam in the Clews Street basement the band now calls home. Garland has made great improvements to his sound and is now looking to expand his playing abilities. Ryan McKinnon lists 311's Tim Mahoney as one of his greatest musical influences. Combining his own style of short riffs and thought-out solos, McKinnon has become one of the focal points of the band. Always developing new chords and riffs, McKinnon is sure to make his presence felt on stage. Acclivity is unlike any local band you have heard before. The band tries to steer clear of the heavy guitars, ruckus drums, and thoughtless vocals that most garage bands normally produce. The end result of such a commitment is something unique, a local Rhode Island band with good jam instrumentation accompanied by nice melodic vocals. However, Acclivity is much more than a jam band, their songs actually have structure, melody and feeling to them. The songs in which they write are not overly repetitive and the band understands how good, tight songs should be laid out. The band Acclivity certainly shows potential to be a lasting force in the local music scene for the years to come and with time and practice this is one band not to miss.
