REGISTRATION

USING THE BOARDS

OTHER OPTIONS

REGISTRATION

Do I have to register to use the boards, and why?

First, registration is, and has been, one of our membership requirements. While anyone can read postings to the bulletin boards without registering, you cannot post to the boards unless you are a member.

By signing up as a member, you agree to follow our rules of the road for posting to the boards. Their aim is to make the user experience -- for you and others -- more enjoyable.

Registering a "username" also allows you to edit your profile and display preferences (preferred language; sort by date, subject or poster, in ascending or descending order; how many posts per page, and more). You will get the most out of your time here if you change your preferences to suit your individual tastes. There are many options in your profile to make your experience here more enjoyable, so please take a few moments to try the various settings. Also, only people with registered user names can take advantage of the "New Posts" feature upon each visit.

Where do I go to register?

You may sign up to use the boards at this page:
http://www.projo.com/wwwthreads/newuser.pl?Cat=

What do you do with the registration information?

Filling out your user profile is optional. Belo Interactive may match aggregated user information with third party data. Also, Belo Interactive discloses aggregated user statistics in order to describe our services to potential advertisers, partners and other third parties, and for other lawful purposes. Additionally, Belo Interactive will use reasonable efforts to ensure that only our employees with a "need to know" will have access to your information. We do not release personal information about you as an individual to third parties. For more detailed information, please read our corporate privacy policy.

Why do you ask if I'm 13 years old or older?

Projo.com cares about the safety of children and their use of the Internet. Therefore, in accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, we will never knowingly request or solicit personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13 without prior verifiable parental consent. In the event that we receive actual knowledge that we have collected such personal information without the requisite and verifiable parental consent, we will delete that information from our database as quickly as is practical.

Do I have to accept cookies in order to use the boards?

Yes. Cookies -- which are digital data that a Web site can send to your browser, where it can be stored for future reference -- are used to track your user name/password and which posts you have read for your current session. Without accepting cookies, some functions won't work properly.

I've registered on projo.com to access articles. Why can't I log in and post on the bulletin boards with the same user name and password?

Unfortunately, we have two registration systems: One system (http://signin.projo.com) is to access articles on projo.com, and one system is for the bulletin boards. To become a registered bulletin board user, you must register here: http://www.projo.com/wwwthreads/newuser.pl?cat=

Why do you ask for two e-mail addresses?

Your "real" e-mail address is used for e-mail notifications and forum subscriptions and to e-mail your password.

The other, optional e-mail is what other users see when they view your profile. We realize that some people don't want their valid e-mail address displayed to the public, but projo.com needs it in case you want to subscribe to a forum or if you want replies to your posts e-mailed to you. For this reason, you can give us your real e-mail address, which only we will see, and provide a different one for the general public to see.

For example, some people like to display something like scream@no.spam.wwwthreads.com in their profile. This way, other users can still figure out what your real e-mail address is (in this case, scream@wwwthreads.com), but spamming agents can't just parse through the page and spam you, because there is no such domain as no.spam.wwwthreads.com.

Why do I get an error message when I try to post a message?

Have you registered yet? If not, go here:
http://www.projo.com/wwwthreads/newuser.pl?Cat=

If so, it could be that you just need to log in. You can do so here:
http://www.projo.com/wwwthreads/login.pl?Cat=

If that doesn't work, please provide us with a more detailed description of the problem you encounter when you try to post (copies of error messages, if there are any, are extremely helpful to us). We ought to be able to get you back on track. E-mail us at twocents@projo.com to report the problem.

Where do I edit my profile?

http://www.projo.com/wwwthreads/editprofile.pl?Cat=
Click on "Basic Profile" and edit the information there.

Can I change my user name?

No, an administrator will have to delete your current user name, and you will have to re-register with your new name. E-mail us at twocents@projo.com with your request. We will e-mail you back when the old user name has been deleted. Once that is done, you will want to click this link first: http://www.projo.com/wwwthreads/logout.pl?Cat=. That will de-activate your cookie, which was tied to the old user name. Without de-activating that cookie, you will have trouble re-registering.

How can I change my password?

Go to http://www.projo.com/wwwthreads/editbasic.pl?Cat=
The first two fields on the form are password. Type your desired password in both fields (the second is a confirmation to prevent typos). Press the submit button at the bottom of the page. The next time you log in, you can use your new password.

I forgot my password. What do I do?

Go to the log in screen:
http://www.projo.com/wwwthreads/login.pl?Cat=
Fill in your user name in the appropriate field, but leave the password field blank. Click the "I forgot my password" button. A new, random password will be sent to you via e-mail. When you receive that e-mail, use the password to log in at the page linked above.

What if I forget my user name?

Send a note to twocents@projo.com. We'll do a search for your user name based upon your e-mail address, and e-mail the user name back to you within 48 hours.

USING THE BOARDS

What do all these buttons mean?

The buttons are used for navigation and displaying posts. Depending on the screen you are on, they may serve different purposes.

When displaying a list of all threads:

- and will take you to the previous or next page of posts.
- will take you to the index of all available forums.
- will let you make a new post on that board.
- The and buttons will allow you to toggle, or shift, between expanded and collapsed threads. Expanded threads will show the subject of all posts and replies in a threaded format. Collapsed threads will show only the subject of the main post, plus the number of replies to that post.

When viewing individual threads:
- and will take you to the previous or next thread.
- will take you back to the listing of all posts on that page.
- allows you to view the entire thread of posts on one page, if there are any replies to the original message.
- allows you to view the current posts, with all other posts on that thread simply listed below.

What do the user titles mean, and how do they change?

Why are Subject, Poster and Posted On clickable?

You can click on any of these to change the order in which the posts are sorted and displayed.

If you click on Subject once, it will display posts by Subject in reverse alphabetical order. If you click on it again, it will display posts by Subject in alphabetical order. Poster and Posted on work similarly.

You can also set these and other display preferences in advance here: http://www.projo.com/wwwthreads/editdisplay.pl?Cat=

How can I see more (or less) posts per page?
You can change the number of posts to be displayed per page by editing your profile. You can set this from anything between 1 and 99 posts per page. When you first sign up this gets set to 10 posts per page.
